FibroScan

FibroScan Assessment

Non-invasive, painless liver evaluation — no biopsy needed.

What Is FibroScan?

FibroScan is a state-of-the-art, non-invasive technology that assesses the health of your liver without the need for a needle or biopsy. Using a technique called vibration-controlled transient elastography, FibroScan measures the stiffness of your liver tissue — a key indicator of fibrosis (scarring) — and the amount of fat in your liver.

The procedure is quick, painless, and performed right in our office. You lie on your back, and the technician places a small probe on your skin over your liver. The probe sends a gentle vibration through your skin and measures how quickly the vibration wave travels through your liver. Stiffer tissue indicates more scarring. The entire test takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

Why FibroScan?

  • Non-invasive — no needles, no sedation, no recovery time
  • Painless — most patients feel only a gentle vibration on the skin
  • Quick — the test takes about 10 to 15 minutes
  • Accurate — provides reliable measurements of liver stiffness and fat content
  • Repeatable — can be performed regularly to monitor changes in your liver over time

Who Should Have a FibroScan?

FibroScan is recommended for patients with:

  • Fatty liver disease (MASLD/NAFLD)
  • Chronic hepatitis B or C
  • Alcoholic liver disease
  • Other chronic liver conditions
  • Unexplained abnormal liver function tests

After the Test

You can resume normal activities immediately — there is no recovery period. Your physician will review the results with you and discuss next steps, which may include lifestyle changes, additional testing, or treatment depending on the findings.
