Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about our practice and procedures.

Scheduling & Visits

How do I schedule an appointment?

You can request an appointment online through our secure portal at myliverdoctor.com, or call our office at (281) 557-2527.

Do I need a referral?

This depends on your insurance plan. Some plans require a referral from your primary care physician. Please check with your insurance provider, or call our office and we can help you determine what is needed.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring your photo ID, insurance card(s), a list of current medications, any relevant medical records, and a list of questions you would like to ask your doctor. If a referral is required by your insurance, please bring the referral authorization.

How do I cancel or reschedule?

Please call our office at (281) 557-2527 at least 48 hours in advance so we can offer your appointment time to another patient.

Procedures

Will my procedure hurt?

Procedures like colonoscopy and EGD are performed with sedation, so you will be comfortable and will not feel pain. Most patients have no memory of the procedure. In-office procedures like hemorrhoid banding may cause mild discomfort but are generally well tolerated.

How do I prepare for a colonoscopy?

Your doctor will provide detailed preparation instructions, including a bowel preparation regimen. Following these instructions carefully is essential for a thorough examination. If you have questions about your preparation, please call our office.

Will I need someone to drive me home?

Yes. If you receive sedation for a procedure, you must have someone drive you home. You cannot drive or operate machinery for the rest of the day.

How long does a colonoscopy take?

The procedure itself typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. Plan to be at our facility for about 2 to 3 hours total, including check-in, preparation, the procedure, and recovery.

Insurance & Billing

What insurance plans do you accept?

We accept most major insurance plans. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to verify that our practice is in-network with your specific plan. If you have questions, our staff is happy to help — call (281) 557-2527.

How can I pay my bill?

You can pay your bill online through our secure patient portal at our billing portal. You can also pay by phone or mail. Call our office for details.

General

At what age should I get a screening colonoscopy?

The American Cancer Society recommends beginning colon cancer screening at age 45 for average-risk adults. If you have a family history of colon cancer or other risk factors, your doctor may recommend starting earlier.

What is the difference between a gastroenterologist and a hepatologist?

A gastroenterologist specializes in diseases of the digestive system (esophagus, stomach, intestines, pancreas, and bile ducts). A hepatologist specializes in diseases of the liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts. Many of our physicians are trained and board-certified in both gastroenterology and hepatology.
